James is a clinical psychologist with over 10 years experience working in the NHS within forensic, inpatient and community services. Since qualifying as a clinical psychologist 6 years ago, James has worked in a variety of child, family and adult services in the NHS. He has lectured part time at Bangor University, and currently tutors on the University of Manchester’s doctorate in Clinical Psychology. James offers his expertise privately in Manchester, Liverpool, Cheshire and North Wales.

James has experience of offering a variety of assessments, intervention and therapy to a range of individuals, families and groups. James offers clinical psychology services to people experiencing any emotional, relational and health difficulties in their lives. Examples include distress, sadness, low mood, anxiety, traumatic experiences, thoughts of self harm or suicide, relational conflict and body concerns.

Within his work, James utilises a variety of psychological and psychotherapy models, including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), systemic, mindfulness, interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

James mainly offers services to adults, children and young people. This includes families, older adults and people with disability. James has developed specialist skills to work with people who have experienced significant trauma, individuals who experience urges to harm themselves, deaf people, people who identify as non-heterosexual, children with disability and looked after children.

James is also a skilled supervisor for professionals seeking some time and space to reflect on their clinical work.
