The Sun is Damaging

We all need to protect our skin from the sun, regardless of skin colour or age; because of the ozone layer damage, life pressures and chemical exposure, the risks are high. To stop ageing of the skin, skin diseases and skin cancer you need to prevent sun damage by taking precautions. Within this article we provide advice and information on which is the best way to do this.

Skin Protection Throughout History

Humans in the past have worked in the glaring sun to build and grow our cities without protection or sun cream on their skin. Clear Medical have found that ancient civilisations used oil preparation techniques to prepare the skin prior to sun exposure. In the last 80 years we have become more aware of the risk of sun damage and the need to protect the skin. Chemical production has also increased in all areas of human consumption which has a negative side effect caused by individual sensitivities to them.

What is damaging about the sun?

UVA, UVB and UVD are sun radiation rays which can be absorbed by our skin and stimulate cellular responses this sensitises our skin. These differ depending on the individuals genetics and can include:

Pigmentation (sun spots, freckles, age spots or brown patches)

Redness (general redness, broken capillaries)

Reduced collagen and elastin production (wrinkles and lines)

Increased crusting of the skin surface (dry & flaky skin)

Infections (warts, acne or spots)

How to protect skin from sun?

Applying a good sunblock/sun cream everyday with a high SPF factor will prevent sun damage. A healthy natural lifestyle will also supplement the effects of external care. Skin care is still essential and includes the use of nourishing products, that do not cause further harm.

Sun Cream SPF explained

SPF stands for sun protection factor. This is usually seen on sun creams as SPF 15, 30 and 50. This means that a SPF of 15 gives 15 times your natural protection. Previously olive, asian or darker skin types thought to use a low spf. However, recently knowledge has increased and if an individual has an inherant susceptibilty to any damage caused from the sun, it is advised to use the highest SPF.

Prior to sun exposure, we recommend using organii SPF 50 as it is always best to be safe. For after sun, we advise using our Tone and Defence Formula Skin Oil to further protect skin from sun.
